Cathy Coover, BSN, RN, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Student

Cathy is a staff nurse at UIHC Medical Intensive Care Unit. She earned her ADN from Kirkwood Community College in 2012, BSN from the University of Iowa in 2014 and entered the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at the University of Iowa in 2024. Her doctoral education has focused on primary care for adults, with a particular interest in preventive care, chronic disease management, and developing healthcare systems that help adults with complex needs remain independent in their communities.

Throughout her nursing career, Cathy has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including care coordination, behavioral health, and intensive care. These experiences have provided her with a broad perspective on the continuum of care and a deep appreciation for the role that coordinated, patient-centered systems play in promoting health, safety, and community integration. She is particularly interested in strengthening healthcare systems that enable older adults to age in place safely and with dignity by improving care coordination, supporting caregivers, reducing unnecessary hospitalizations, and connecting individuals with the resources they need to remain independent in their homes.

“The mission of the Csomay Center to advance innovative models of care for older adults is both compassionate and pragmatic; investing in healthy aging strengthens individuals, families, and communities alike. I am honored to serve as a Clinical Leader in Residence at the Csomay Center and excited to be a part of that work.”
